The Lord Will Be A Refuge For The Oppressed
David understood despair, hopelessness, and sadness.
As you read his psalms, he tells of the turmoil he experienced.
He tells of:
His friends betraying him
His enemies hunting him
Loneliness
Grief
Sadness
Despair
Him questioning things
Anxiety
And more
David didn’t sugarcoat these things; he didn’t hide them, suppress them, or pretend they weren’t there. Instead, he gave them a name and gave them to God.
He talked to God about how all these things were happening to him, how it wasn’t right, and questioned: "How long will this keep going?"
And then he turns it into praise, gratitude, and a testimony.
You see, David didn’t pretend pain didn’t exist, AND he worshiped the One who could make it all better; he worshiped the God who was, is, and always will be faithful!
In therapy, we do the same thing. We process the event, talk about our emotions, get through life transitions together, AND we thank Him for being our refuge, the greatest Counselor, and for always being present.
He defends us, goes before us, and sits beside us. He is the Counselor and the Mighty God whom we’ll invite into every session.
